Meeting Minutes – October 25, 2003

In addition to general business, announcements, and information-sharing, we considered strategies to help our multicultural and international student organizations secure new technology for their office space, reviewed progress being made in discussions about curtailing or ending smoking in our student residences, and decided to fulfill the Athletics Department request that we open the residences one day earlier next semester than originally planned (i.e., we now will open on Saturday, January 10), in support of their efforts to encourage attendance at that day’s home basketball game. We began consideration of a request from our colleagues in the Asian Pacific Student Affairs Association, some of whom would like to visit our campus again this spring as they did in 2002. We approved a plan for expansion of our Health Crisis Team to include associates from the faculty and other sectors of the University and completed our discussion, for the current stage of the 2004-2005 budget development process, of fiscal priorities. We reviewed and revised plans for various Homecoming events, continued our discussion of off-campus safety and security issues, and were apprised of and became further involved in the plans for January’s fifth annual King’s Dream events. Also this week, Dr. Cicala led a divisional team to the American Council on Education’s conference “Educating All of One Nation,” to help us continue to develop our approaches to multicultural and international student needs and services.
