Meeting Minutes – March 5, 2004

In addition to general business, announcements, and information-sharing, we received a detailed update about the work of our New Student Experiences Team, with particular emphasis on the continued refinement of the diversity, alcohol and other drug, and academic/intellectual components of both Day ONE and Opening Weekend. We discussed and agreed upon a variety of short-term and longer-term efforts to assist our students residing in the North Halls and St. Neumann Hall cope with noise from, respectively, 20th Street-closure protests and new residential construction, and to address concerns about anticipated spring student activity in the Wister Woods area (also known as “Belfield”). We discussed concerns that have been expressed about a posting to Administrative Services’ otherwise well-received “mylasalle” discussion group for prospective roommates and began a strategy to address and resolve concerns. We were apprised of upcoming Career Services activities, including Career Expo (71 employers registered, to date) and the annual “Dinner with the President.” We continued our preparations for the presentations we’ll make at April’s annual convention of the American College Personnel Association (ACPA). Dr. C. continued, and briefly updated us about, his initiative to review,on our behalf, data from our spring, 2003 administrations of the CSEQ and the ACUHO-I Resident Satisfaction Survey with associates in the University community, most recently the Directors of Security and Safety, Physical Facilities, Information Technology, and Food Services. Joint efforts to continue to improve upon areas of mutual concern will be summarized at one of our meetings next week. Mr. Wendell conducted this month’s divisional staff development session, regarding current legal issues in higher education. Ms. Allen participated in the spring retreat of the Lasallian Leadership Institute.
