Meeting Minutes – October 22, 2004

In addition to general business, announcements, and information-sharing, we received updates regarding the November 4 Experiential Education Fair and on the record (to date) number of student registered for spring semester study abroad. We completed our work on divisional requests for new funding for fiscal year 2006. We agreed to widely disseminate information to staff members who might benefit from NASPA’s regional new professionals conference; Dean Cicala will cover the costs of attendance for those who participate and also will encourage senior staff members to submit program proposals. We reviewed and agreed, in principle, with the recommendations of the Community Development Advisory Board for interim adjustments, while study continues, of residential visitation policies and procedures and requested a draft formal statement from the board. Several team members collaborated with Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation staff to lead this week’s “Explorer Life Skills” session for first year student athletes. Next week’s meetings’ discussions will center on continuance of our discussion about arrangements for our new student residence; planning for our November “Explorer Life Skills” session, on Lasallian leadership; and on expanded efforts to engage students in discussion of and help them learn more about policies, procedures, and resources to help with campus incidents. Dean Wendell represented us in meeting of regional student affairs/judicial officers. Dean Cicala was both participant and invited panelist in the U.S. Dept. of Education’s annual national meeting on alcohol and other drugs and violence in higher education and the senior administrators forum embedded in the meeting. Presentations also were made by our own Alcohol and Other Drug Program staff, Dr. Robert Chapman (who also co-chaired the national planning committee) and Br. Edward Conway.
