Meeting Minutes – October 16, 2008

  • Career Expo
    • The team discussed the Explore U stations that will be set up at the Career Expo. Jay Boney is arranging for Alumni to help staff these stations.
    • A handout explaining what students can accomplish at each of the Explore U stations will be handed out to FYO classes through the Assistant Deans in the sections they are visiting to do pre-registration sessions and by the instructors in the remaining FYO classes.
  • Explore U Website
    • Progress continues to be made- Goal is to start encouraging students to utilize personal checklists at the Career Expo.
    • The Explore U team brainstormed ways to encourage students to continue re-visiting the website to keep them involved in an ongoing way in career exploration pursuits. Various ideas were suggested.
      • Incentives for completing a percentage of tasks.
      • Students entered into a raffle for prizes if they have a certain number of visits to their individualized checklist.
    • Each individualized checklist will have a way to measure progress to visually show students how many Explore U tasks they have completed for a given stage of the model.
  • Stage 5 (Alumni) Checklist – Explore Always
    • Jay Boney shared a draft of the checklist for Stage 5 of the model. The team discussed and endorsed the following items for the checklist.
      • Build association/connection(s) within the University and with University resources, internal and external.
        • Update La Salle University with your current biographical information.
        • Identify other La Salle Alumni in your current company.
        • Join the local La Salle Alumni club in your area.
      • Build and enhance personal, academic, and career networks.
        • Attend La Salle University networking events hosted by the Alumni Association.
        • Join social networking groups affiliated with La Salle; i.e. LinkedIn.com/Facebook.com.
        • Participate in homecoming and class activities.
      • Find ways to support the career development needs of current La Salle students.
        • As a La Salle University Alum, begin to identify ways that you personally can assist current students.
        • Join the La Salle University alumni mentor program.
        • Research internship opportunities at your present company.
