  • Career Expo review
    • Approximately 550 students attended, 104 organizations were represented and 12 alumni were in attendance.
    • Feedback from the employers spoke highly of our students and how they presented themselves.
    • Four Explore U stations were positioned around the room with Alumni staffing these. Each station focused on the essential steps of the stages of the Explore U model.
  • Majors and Minors Fair
    • Scheduled for Thursday February 21st.
    • Vision is for each academic department to be represented.
      • Information similar to what is displayed at the Admission Open Houses.
      • Ideally, each table would be staffed by a faculty member, an upper division student from that major and an alumnus or alumna who graduated with that major.
        • Alumni Relations would be able to assist departments in finding alumni to attend the fair.
      • Other ideas include “what can you do with this major”, samples of syllabi, samples of text books, etc.
    • Career Services will be organizing the logistics of the Majors and Minors Fair and providing support where needed.
  • Explore U
    • Assessment of the Explore U pilot is currently in process.
    • Subsequent stages are being developed.
  • Use of Technology in advancing networking for Career Services
    • Steve Fabiani was invited to discuss how the groups feature in the portal might be used to connect students with alumni around potential career and academic interests.
      • Steve suggested that students may not make use of this as this is not one of the ‘social networking’ methods they are used to. He suggested the possibility of using already existing social networks i.e. “my space”, “linkedin”.
      • Lou demonstrated the usefulness of eXplorenet for linking alumni with students.
      • Discussion ensued about how to ‘market’ the usefulness of eXplorenet to both students and faculty.
        • Ideas included presenting info about eXplorenet groups to professional organizations and their advisors
        • Meeting with department chairs to explain the usefulness of eXplorenet
        • Setting up a table at the Majors and Minors Fair with demonstrations of eXplorenet.
  • Student Input
    • The committee was strongly in agreement that we include a few students periodically into the CSAC discussions to elicit student feedback about the various initiatives being discussed.
  • Next meeting will be Dec. 5th at 2 p.m. – location to be decided

Respectfully submitted by Lane B. Neubauer Ph.D.
